Specification
There are many ways to specify coatings for application on parts. This can be done by simply calling out a paint companies product number, a product type with some type of color notation, or reference to the parts performance needs. For small companies any of these methods work but for larger companies or companies that rely on many vendors spread over the globe, there is a need to define the coatings performance in a well defined specifications. That specification needs to include all important properties as well as the testing methods. The specification is also a good place to document your companies compliance requirements to any environmental or regulatory issues.
